Chairman's Column: Brighton

3 May 2014

Hello and welcome to The City Ground for this afternoon’s match against Brighton and Hove Albion.

So another season draws to a close – my second as chairman and owner of Nottingham Forest.

While missing out on a playoff place has come as a disappointment to us all,I think we share the same excitement for what next season has in store.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a number of ‘thank yous’, first of all to our supporters, whose loyalty was reflected in the numbers we took to Bournemouth last weekend.

What was even more impressive, however, was the vocal backing they gave our players right up until the final whistle.

I intend to join the team on a lap of appreciation after full-time this afternoon in recognition of all our fans’ efforts this season.

I politely ask everyone to stay off the pitch to allow this to happen.

It hasn’t been an easy season for the team but they nevertheless deserve great credit for keeping the campaign alive until the penultimate game.

Injuries have been a huge source of frustration for everyone connected with the club and, for a number of individuals, treatment and rehabilitation will continue throughout the summer.

I wish those players well and I look forward to hopefully welcoming them back in pre-season.

When I placed Gary Brazil in charge following Billy Davies’ departure, I was fully aware how great a task I had set.

But Gary, Jimmy Gilligan and Steve Sutton have carried out their roles extremely professionally without compromising the day-to-day running of our Academy.

I am sure they will form a fantastic relationship with Stuart Pearce to give more of our young players the best possible chance of making the step up to our first team in the years to come.

Finally, a huge thank you to all our staff, the majority of whom will continue to work extremely hard throughout the summer, for all of their contributions towards the 2013-14 season.

I can’t wait to welcome everyone back to The City Ground to usher in a new era. In the meantime, keep your eye on nottinghamforest.co.uk and @Official_NFFC for all the latest news from the club.

Have a fantastic summer.
