Nottingham Forest supporters have voted Andy Reid as the club’s 2013-14 Player of the Season. The influential midfielder enjoyed an excellent campaign, making 36 appearances and scooping his second Player of the Season award, a decade on from his first.
The Irishman found the net ten times this season including memorable strikes at Watford, Wigan and Doncaster to add to crucial efforts against QPR, Millwall, Charlton and Leicester.
His dynamic and reliable performances in the Forest engine room also saw him named as the club’s vice-captain and return to the international fold by making two outings for the Republic of Ireland in October and November.
His popularity among the Forest supporters has never wavered and, almost 15 years after making his debut at The City Ground, Reid was thrilled to have his efforts recognised by The Reds’ faithful.
He said: “It is a fantastic honour. I am truly grateful to everyone who has voted for me. It is a great award to win and I’m delighted to have the honour of receiving it.
“Of course I take this award with a tinge of sadness that we’ve not achieved our aim of promotion this season. I’d swap this award for a promotion any day of the week.
“We want to use this season’s disappointment as a positive for the next campaign. We know we can do better, we know we can get promoted and that is the only aim we’ll have going forward.”
