Chairman's Column: Doncaster

15 March 2014

A very warm welcome to the representatives of Doncaster Rovers for this afternoon’s Sky Bet Championship match.

Not only is today sure to herald another exciting spectacle on the pitch, but from a club perspective we are delighted to once again be offering Under 16s entry for just £1. I’m sure all families in attendance will have noticed the various activities going on around the ground and I sincerely hope every fan, young and old, has an enjoyable time here this afternoon.

The match itself, like every other at this stage of the season, is an important one, but anyone who thinks it will be easy based on our visitors’ league position is misguided. Doncaster have picked up two excellent victories from their last two matches and will be intent on continuing their form this afternoon to further distance themselves from the relegation places.

Thankfully our concerns lie at the other end of the table, and I was thrilled to see our prospects boosted by an excellent draw at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night. After going 16 matches unbeaten and accumulating so many injuries we were always likely to hit a slump in form, but hopefully that point in midweek signals an upturn in our fortunes. It was a pleasure to see ten busloads of travelling fans arrive at The Riverside Stadium knowing I had the honour of covering the cost. Our away support has been magnificent all season and I was delighted to give something back.

It has also been fantastic to hear better news on the injury front recently. Andy Reid’s impact at Middlesbrough is well-documented, while it is exciting to hear Kelvin Wilson has been in action for our Under 21s. Our medical staff are working extremely hard and a number of players are making good progress. I’m sure they are all looking forward to getting back to full fitness and trying to earn a place in our side as we continue our pursuit of success.

Come on you Reds.
