Goals from Elvis Otim and Tyler Walker helped Nottingham Forest's Under 18s record an impressive 2-0 win at Charlton Athletic this afternoon. The result gave The Reds some measure of revenge after they were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup by the same opposition at The City Ground back in January.
Forest played some superb counter-attacking football and took the lead after 27 minutes when Otim sent a thumping finish past home goalkeeper Harry Doherty from inside the penalty area.
And The Reds doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time as a clinical counter-attack saw Derrick Otim play a delightful ball through to Walker and the striker calmly slotted home.
A determined second-half display saw Forest keep only their third clean sheet of the season and Academy manager Gary Brazil was delighted with the standard of his side's performance.
He said: "We were excellent at both ends of the field this afternoon and it was especially pleasing to keep a clean sheet. We played some good counter-attacking football and scored two superb goals so it is a great afternoon's work.
"The lads are putting into practice a lot of the things we've been working on in training. They are finding more innovative ways to hurt the opposition and their rewards are coming now in the results they are getting."
The Under 18s will take plenty of confidence from today's victory in the capital and will hope for another positive result when they travel to near neighbours Derby County on Saturday (kick-off 11am).
