Perfect Start For Lars

16 July 2014

Lars Veldwijk has described the opening weeks of his Nottingham Forest career as “perfect”.

The imposing front man, who signed for Forest this summer after a successful season with Excelsior in his native Netherlands, could make his second Forest appearance, against Porto B, this evening after impressing at Ilkeston on Saturday.

And the 22-year-old says he has been welcomed into the Reds pack with open arms.

Speaking to Forest Player at the team hotel in Portugal, Veldwijk said: “It has been perfect. My teammates are very nice and Nottingham is a good place, I like it.”

Veldwijk, who describes himself as a target man with good pace for a man of his stature, has high hopes for the forthcoming campaign, but knows he will have to work hard for a place in Stuart Pearce’s line-up.

He said: “I like how they play football in England. I think the style is good for me but it’s different to what it’s like in Holland, so I need to settle down.

“I don’t know how long that will take, but if I can do it quickly I hope to get my place in the first 11 and go on to play a lot of minutes in my first year.

“I feel fit. I need to be better but it’s pre-season so I will train hard.”
