Lars Veldwijk has described the opening weeks of his Nottingham Forest career as “perfect”.The imposing front man, who signed for Forest this summer after a successful season with Excelsior in his native Netherlands, could make his second Forest appearance, against Porto B, this evening after impressing at Ilkeston on Saturday.
And the 22-year-old says he has been welcomed into the Reds pack with open arms.
Speaking to Forest Player at the team hotel in Portugal, Veldwijk said: “It has been perfect. My teammates are very nice and Nottingham is a good place, I like it.”
Veldwijk, who describes himself as a target man with good pace for a man of his stature, has high hopes for the forthcoming campaign, but knows he will have to work hard for a place in Stuart Pearce’s line-up.
He said: “I like how they play football in England. I think the style is good for me but it’s different to what it’s like in Holland, so I need to settle down.
“I don’t know how long that will take, but if I can do it quickly I hope to get my place in the first 11 and go on to play a lot of minutes in my first year.
“I feel fit. I need to be better but it’s pre-season so I will train hard.”
