Greg Halford was pleased with the opportunity to play in midfield in yesterday’s 3-2 victory over Porto B.The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the centre of the park, a position he had been keen to test himself in for some time.
And he told Forest Player that he would take a lot from the experience.
Halford said: “It was nice to get a central midfield role for the first time in a few years. I found it tough - I was a bit lost sometimes - but hopefully I’ll get another opportunity and I can keep on working. I’ve learned a lot today.
“It was a tough 90 minutes in the scorching heat. There wasn’t really much air to breathe, but I’m glad I got the minutes under my belt and hopefully I’ll get some more game time on Saturday.”
Michael Mancienne yesterday became the latest new arrival at The City Ground, a player who rivals Halford in the versatility stakes.
But the former Sheffield United man has welcomed the fresh competition with open arms.
Halford said: “Every footballer should relish those sort of challenges, it’s only going to make you better as a player.
“We welcome all the new players in but they have to fight for their place, it’s not going to be given to them.”
