Chairman's Column: Watford

30 January 2014

Good evening everyone and a very warm welcome to the representatives of Watford Football Club.

I wish to start by thanking you all for the outstanding support you gave the team in our FA Cup fourth-round match against Preston North End last Friday. A crowd of over 26,000 was nothing short of staggering and went some way towards proving the respect we all have for such a great competition.

As a club we knew that, after Christmas and in the middle of a busy fixture schedule, we needed to do something to reward you all for the backing you continue to provide. We were also conscious that the Friday night fixture will have been inconvenient for many of you. I was therefore thrilled to see so many supporters take up our £10 ticket offer, and it’s great Preston have opted for the same prices for next Wednesday’s replay.

The match itself was a difficult one for us as we struggled to break down a side who proved very stubborn opposition. But we kept another clean sheet and preserved our impressive unbeaten run to go into tonight’s match in confident mood.

On a final note, I would like to expand on some comments I made recently. I am active on Twitter because I want to be more open than most chairmen and develop a relationship with you all. While I realise this approach leaves me subject to comments from the wider football fraternity – including our friends along the A52 – I was extremely disappointed with some of the tweets directed at me this month. I am however aware the vast majority of you are behind me and share my desperation for Nottingham Forest to succeed. For every negative comment I read 50 positive ones, and that is more than enough to motivate me to guide this club back to where it should be.

Come on you Reds.
