Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Mackie is targeting victory over a Burnley side who he says are “direct opponents” to The Reds for a top-two place.Forest travel to Lancashire tomorrow, where they will complete the second match in a double-header over teams currently occupying the Sky Bet Championship’s automatic promotion places.
And, while Mackie admits he is struggling to brush the disappointment of Wednesday’s draw against Leicester aside, he says the Turf Moor trip is one which excites him.
Speaking to Forest Player, he said: “I’m still a little bit gutted we didn’t manage to come away with three points from the position we were in against Leicester.
“But if we go to Burnley and get a positive result it would be a good achievement because they’re a group which has been together for a long time and they’re near the top of the league.
“I enjoy games like this more than fixtures against teams at the wrong end of the table. If we want to get promoted, these teams are direct opponents for us.
“We’ve got to go into this one believing we can get something. We want to get 2nd place and feel it is a realistic target.”
