Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj says he is eager to get back to action after missing almost a month of the season with a groin injury. The USA international had been a consistent performer in the Forest back four since his summer move from Aston Villa but has not featured since The Reds’ 4-2 win over Watford at the end of January.
Brighter times are ahead though as the full back has now recovered from a potentially season-ending injury, and Lichaj is now looking to regain a place in the starting line-up for the visit of playoff-chasing Wigan Athletic on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
He told Forest Player: “I picked up a pelvic injury which initially the medical team thought could be a hernia which would have kept me out for longer. I’ve had a few injuries in my career and it is always tough but I had some time off and the injury has healed now so I’m fit and ready to play.
“It’s always frustrating to get injured. I thought I was playing well at the time and I didn’t want to stop. Now I feel better I hope I can pick up where I left off. I enjoy training and playing and I can’t wait to get back into the games.”
Lichaj was watching Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Burnley from the substitutes’ bench as he stepped up his recovery, and says he and his teammates must respond with three points this weekend as they continue their promotion push.
He said: “We need a positive reaction after the result at Burnley but more importantly we need the three points. We’re still in touching distance of the automatic promotion places but we know we have to improve our form if we are to get there.
“Home form is always important because that is where we should be winning. Squad morale is still really high in the dressing room and we’re all excited about the challenges to come.”
