Chairman's Column: Yeovil

2 February 2014

Good afternoon everyone and a very warm welcome to the representatives of Yeovil Town.

Print deadlines dictated I had to write these notes on Thursday – and what a day it was. What can I say about the Watford match? A quite incredible game and a brilliant result.

We also continued our work in the transfer market by securing Southampton’s Danny Fox on a loan deal which will become permanent this summer. Danny is a player with immense talent and experience both at this level, where he has won promotion with Southampton, and in the Premier League. I’m thrilled he has bought into our long-term vision by committing the next three-and-a-half years of his career to us.

I was also delighted to complete the formalities of deals for Rafik Djebbour and Kevin Gomis.

Rafik boasts a tremendous goalscoring record from his time with Greek champions Olympiacos, with whom he made his mark in the Champions League. He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with us and I’m sure he will be a very useful addition to our attacking options.

Kevin will be with us for the rest of the season after joining on loan from French Premier League side OGC Nice. He is a centre-back who has developed a strong reputation and I am delighted he will be with us for the run-in to the end of the season.

This was my second experience of the January transfer window and it once again posed many challenges, but I am extremely pleased with the progress we made. At the time of writing there was still a day to go but, whatever happened on Friday, I am content I did all I could to add sufficient quality to the squad to aid our push for promotion.

Yeovil’s concerns lie at the opposite end of the table but we know all too well what a threat they can be. It should be an interesting match.

Come on you Reds.
