Chairman's Column: Leicester

19 February 2014

Good evening everyone and a warm welcome to the representatives of Leicester City Football Club.

I would like to start by extending my gratitude to all of you who travelled to any of our recent away matches. To have four consecutive trips is rare but we were backed superbly at them all, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me, the staff and the players.
Sadly we couldn’t round off our succession of away games with a victory at Sheffield United on Sunday. I, like all of you, would have loved to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup but sadly it wasn’t to be. The Blades had already knocked out Premier League sides Aston Villa and Fulham in previous rounds so I think we all knew it was going to be tough, but I was very impressed with the way we controlled the match up until the home side’s fortunate equaliser.
From then on the crowd got behind them – I thought the atmosphere was fantastic throughout, for which our supporters should take great credit – and they managed to snatch victory at the death. The players were clearly devastated at full-time and it’s now up to us all to give them the backing they need to bounce back with a positive result tonight. The spirit among the squad is fantastic and I’m sure Billy has them more than ready for this latest challenge.
Of course, our visitors will be looking to avenge our victory on their turf in November as they look to put further daylight between themselves and second place. These games, under the City Ground lights against our near neighbours, are the ones we all relish and, as supporters, we are in the fortunate position of having a part to play this evening. If we can get it right in the stands anything can happen on the pitch.
Come on you Reds.
