21s Secure Blades Point

14 February 2014

Nottingham Forest's Under 21s played out a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United at a windswept Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.

Charlie McParland named striker Marcus Tudgay in the starting line-up alongside Stephen McLaughlin who had returned from injury.

The first real sight of goal fell to the visitors midway through the opening half but Kieran Wallace made a superb block inside the area to deny former Doncaster striker Billy Paynter.

Forest goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov had to be alert on the half-hour mark as he was forced to palm away a strong effort from Paynter from just outside the six-yard box.

McLaughlin then had the ball in the net shortly before half-time after combining well with Tudgay inside the area but the Irishman was adjudged to be standing in an offside position.

Evtimov and Paynter continued their personal duel on the stroke of the interval. The striker skipped away from Wallace before firing at goal but the big Bulgarian stood firm to save.

Forest almost had the lead on the hour mark but Jack Blake curled his effort narrowly over the bar after linking up with substitute Deimantas Petravicius.

The wet and windy conditions had made it difficult for both sets of players to create chances and the two sides were forced to share the spoils as the referee called an end to proceedings.

Team: Evtimov, Hollingsworth, Wallace, Worrall, Gorman, Rees, Blake (Otim 81'), Osborn, Grant, McLaughlin (Petravicius 46'), Tudgay
