Danny Fox believes Nottingham Forest’s squad is as good as the Southampton one with whom he won promotion to the Premier League in 2012.
The defender played regularly for the Saints as they finished runners-up in the 2011-12 season, securing automatic promotion to the top flight.
And Fox believes there is only one thing missing from his current club’s game which could prevent them from replicating that achievement.
He told Forest Player: “I think we’ve got a squad as good as the one we had at Southampton when we got promoted to the Premier League.
“If we can become more consistent in our results there’s no reason why we can’t achieve what we did.
“Everyone has played in the Championship, if not the Premier League, and there are internationals in the squad.”
And, despite suffering late disappointment at Birmingham last week, the former Celtic man says spirits have been high in training.
Fox said: “It’s been really sharp, the lads have looked well and I don’t think there’s been any lack of confidence within the squad. They’ve been long sessions but they’ve been thorough in the way we want to play.
“It was one of those games against Birmingham. I don’t think anyone, bar Jamaal Lascelles, played particularly well, which is frustrating because it was the same starting 11 that played so well against Wolves.
“There’s no better way to put it right than to have a home game against Charlton on Saturday in front of our own fans.”
