Reidy can’t wait

7 August 2014

Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid “can’t wait” to kick-off the 2014-15 campaign against Blackpool on Saturday.

Forest welcome Jose Riga’s side to The City Ground for the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship season and Reds midfielder Reid says the anticipation is palpable among the squad.

He told Forest Player: “I can’t wait. When you’re off in the summer you’re always thinking about the first game, and now it seems like it’s come around really quickly.

“I think it gets more exciting as you get older because you cherish every season more and more. I’m as excited now as I’ve probably ever been and I think if you look at the players we’ve got coming back from injury, the new manager coming in and the way training has been, it’s a nice place to be.

“We’ve had a lot to work on in pre-season, there have been a number of changes and new faces and there’s a good sense of optimism floating around the club.

“The manager is so up for it, we can feel that from him. He’s an infectious bloke around the place and he’s so keen for us to do well.

“If we can start winning games early on there’s no reason we can’t go on a really good run.”

Forest bolstered their ranks further this week with the signings of winger Michail Antonio and forward Britt Assombalonga, and Reid is confident he and his fellow midfielders will benefit from the pair’s arrival.

He said: “I think it’s been pretty evident at times that pace has been lacking in the team, and that’s been added in abundance this week. Michail and Britt will not only give us that but quality and goals as well.

“There were probably times last season where we didn’t stretch teams enough to allow our footballers to get on the ball and pass it and move it.

“We’ll be able to mix it up more now.”
