Reds land front man

6 August 2014

Nottingham Forest have secured the services of Sky Bet League One’s leading marksman.

Britt Assombalonga, who scored 33 goals in 58 appearances for Peterborough United last season, completed his transfer from London Road today for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal at The City Ground.

Assombalonga scored 24 times in League One last season, claiming the joint-best record in the division, and topped up his tally in cup competitions, scoring an FA Cup hat-trick against Tranmere and sealing Posh’s victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final with a penalty at Wembley.

A graduate of Watford’s academy, loan spells at Wealdstone, Braintree and Southend provided the forward with first-team experience before he made the permanent switch to Peterborough last summer.

He showed early promise by scoring eight goals in his first ten games and went on to become one of the Football League’s most prolific scorers last season.

Now a Red, Assombalonga is in line to feature in the opening-day match against Blackpool at The City Ground on Saturday.
