Jamaal Lascelles and Kelvin Wilson both featured for Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s at the Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.
The pair, who are both recovering from injury, played 45 and 64 minutes respectively and were joined by Louis Laing in the starting line-up.
Charlton were the opponents as Jimmy Gilligan’s side kicked off their season with a 2-1 defeat.
After going into the break a goal down, Forest came back out with renewed vigour and had chances through Derrick Otim, Edouard Schoenecker and Josh Rees.
But it was substitute Oliver Burke, playing up from the Under 18s group, who levelled the scores, turning the ball home after Otim’s neat pull-back.
Otim could have put Forest into the lead moments later but it was the visitors who snatched victory, pouncing quickly to score after Reds keeper Ross Durrant had made a strong save.
Forest had a chance to equalise late on but Rees could only fire the ball straight at the Charlton keeper after he had made a strong save from Burke’s header.
