Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s secured an impressive 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.Goals from Derrick Otim, Andreas Karo and Modibo Tounkara sealed the victory as The Reds got back to winning ways following last week’s defeat to Birmingham City.
Keen to put that loss behind them, Steve Chettle’s side had the lead just after the 20-minute mark as Jake Mulraney escaped down the left-hand channel and crossed for Otim to slam home past the stranded Palace keeper.
Forest were moving the ball in impressive fashion and doubled their advantage seven minutes before the interval as Andreas Karo headed in from a corner.
The visitors brought the score back to 2-1 midway through the second half but soon found themselves down to ten men, and The Reds were able to seal all three points as Tounkara slotted home as the game entered its final stages.
Interim lead professional development coach Steve Chettle was pleased with his side’s performance and praised their ability to bounce back from the Birmingham defeat in such a manner.
He said: “This was a much better performance from us. We scored three very good goals, enjoyed plenty of the possession and to be honest we could have made the game more comfortable than we did. It is a good result against a strong Palace side so we’re very pleased.
“Our results seem to be coming from a bit of a mixed bag at the moment. We are searching for consistency but it will come. It’s still very early in the season.”
