Arkwright Meadows Community GardensAMC Gardens is a community project in the heart of Nottingham’s Meadows area.
Local people have transformed a piece of wasteland into a welcoming garden which is full of surprises… from chillies to chickens!
The garden is complete with an orchard, wildlife pond, fire pit, organic growing beds, Tandoor oven, polytunnel and 19 mini plots.
The charity grows a wide range of products at the site, from beans to bananas, and also produces fresh vegetables at low cost-prices to the community.
All products are sourced locally which include eggs from their free-range hens and honey from their bees.
Children love coming to learn about growing food, caring for the environment and have fun building dens and pond-dipping while adults of all ages and backgrounds benefit from the training and volunteering opportunities offered by the charity.
The Gardens now have an ‘eco-building’ complete with a kitchen, giving people the chance to gain more skills for life, employment and build for a positive future.
AMC Gardens hosts events and activities which bring the community together and also showcase many hidden talents.
Located within a mile of The City Ground, the charity are run by, and for, local people and are supported by over 50 regular volunteers who help to keep the site running.
They welcome more than 5,000 visitors every year and would love to expand that figure even more. Head to www.amcgardens.co.uk for event details and see what is growing in the local community.
As the Gardens have grown, so has the challenge of keeping the project going and the charity appreciates any support that can be given to help the Gardens thrive.
