Nottingham Forest midfield duo Nathaniel Chalobah and Andy Reid were in international action last night as they helped their nations to comfortable wins.Chalobah played all of England Under 21s’ resounding 5-0 victory over Lithuania at Ipswich’s Portman Road. The win powered The Three Lions to the top of their 2015 European Championship qualifying group ahead of their next qualifier against Finland in November.
Reid’s first international appearance in five years saw him play 75 minutes as Republic of Ireland beat Kazakhstan 3-1 to end their unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign on a high note.
One Forest player that could be heading to Brazil 2014 is Gonzalo Jara Reyes after Chile secured their spot at the tournament with a 2-1 win over Ecuador last night. Jara, who played the full 90 minutes in last Friday’s 3-3 draw with Colombia, was an unused substitute but will hope to be a part of the squad for the finals.
Goalkeeper Khaled Al Rashidi was also on the bench as Kuwait gained a creditable 1-1 draw at Lebanon in their 2015 Asian Cup qualifier. The result means Kuwait stay second in their qualifying group with three games still to play.
Young midfielder David Morgan represented Northern Ireland’s Under 21 side last night as he featured in their 2015 European Qualifying defeat in Serbia. Morgan played all 90 minutes and scored an own goal as his side slipped to a 3-1 loss.
