Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s kept up their winning run with a superb 3-2 victory at Sheffield United on Saturday.Goals from Modibo Tounkara and a brace from Tyler Walker put The Reds into a commanding 3-0 lead at the break and, despite a second half fight-back from the home side, Forest left with all three points in the bag.
After an impressive win over Crystal Palace last time out, The Reds picked up where they had left off as they took the lead after just five minutes. A deep cross from Wilfried Gnahore found Tounkara at the back post and the frontman headed home past the home goalkeeper.
Forest continued to play positively and deservedly extended their lead with two goals in five minutes from Walker midway through the second half.
The striker broke the offside trap, latched on to a through-ball from Gnahore and slotted the ball under the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 before scrambling the ball home from a corner to put The Reds three goals to the good.
Sheffield United played a more direct style of football after the interval and managed to pull two goals back but it wasn’t enough to stop Forest leaving with maximum points.
Interim lead professional development coach Steve Chettle had plenty of praise for his side’s performance and was delighted to see them record back-to-back wins.
He said: “We were delighted to see the boys play a good brand of attacking football. We’d had a really good week in the build-up to this game and it was fantastic to see that pay dividends.
“It got a little bit twitchy towards the end after they pulled it back to 3-2 but the lads saw the game out well. It is great to win consecutive games and we’ll travel to Queens Park Rangers next week full of confidence.”
