Nottingham Forest striker Simon Cox has told Forest Player that he is now happy with his fitness after enduring a difficult start to the campaign. The Republic of Ireland international suffered an ankle injury in the Capital One Cup win over Hartlepool United in August and faced a battle to return to full fitness.
But after continuing his tremendous record against Leicester on Saturday – he scored the opening goal to record his seventh strike against The Foxes - Cox feels back to his best.
He said: “I feel good in myself. I had two ankle injuries at the start of the season but I feel like I’m over them now. I’m training fully, I’ve got a smile on my face and the lads have been fantastic. We’ve all stuck together.
“The two previous results didn’t go for us but we didn’t get too down-hearted, just as we’re going to remain level-headed after winning.”
Saturday’s success takes The Reds into the international break on a high, and Cox believes the break could prove ideal ahead of a tough run of fixtures.
He said: “We’ve got the international break now which gives the lads who aren’t going away a chance to rest.
“There are two or three really big games coming up. If we can pick up points against the clubs around us then we’ll have a good chance.”
