Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Mackie has told Forest Player that the squad will ‘dust themselves down and go again’ following yesterday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Blackpool. The Reds saw Djamal Abdoun sent off in the first half before Stephen Dobbie’s stoppage time goal robbed Forest of a point, and Mackie believes the result was an unfair reflection of the 90 minutes.
He said: “I feel gutted because I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. But these are the fine margins that make football such a great game.
“I’ve played a lot of matches in my career. I know when teams deserve something and when they don’t. We fought so hard today and we should have left the field with at least a point.”
Abdoun’s 35th-minute red card had threatened to put Forest on the back foot, but they battled on wilfully and showed a fighting spirit Mackie believes will serve The Reds well in games to come.
He said: “As a group we came together and we contained them really well. We worked immensely hard in the second half and followed the instructions that the manager gave us.
“We’ll dust ourselves down and go again because we are still in the playoff positions. It has been a frustrating afternoon but with the energy and quality we’ve got in the team, we’ll go on a good run soon.”
