Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has told Forest Player that young defender Jamaal Lascelles is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up for Saturday’s visit of Blackpool (kick-off 3pm).The 19 year old made his first league appearance of the season at Yeovil last weekend and his manager says the Academy graduate must now step up to the plate.
The Reds boss said: “Now is the time for Jamaal to have a run in the side and prove he can play at this level. He’s got all the attributes of a fantastic centre back but he must realise the improvements he needs to make to his game.
“Because of the injury situation we will be putting him in the team and giving him a good run of games. But he has to justify his place and make sure he becomes an important part of the defensive unit.”
The Reds boss will be unable to call upon the services of injured pair Kelvin Wilson and Danny Collins, but Henri Lansbury is available for selection again after serving a one-match ban.
His return, combined with the arrival of Sunderland’s David Vaughan and an impressive midfield display from Gonzalo Jara at Yeovil, leaves the Forest boss with some difficult decisions to make for the visit of The Tangerines.
He said: “Unfortunately Kelvin and Danny will still be missing for this weekend but we’re delighted to have Henri back from suspension.
“Gonzalo’s performance at Yeovil has given us a real selection problem. From speaking to him, he is very comfortable playing in a midfield role and we feel he has a good mix of defensive qualities and attacking abilities.”
Blackpool will be without six key players for the game as Chris Basham joins Barry Ferguson, Nathan Delfouneso, Craig Cathcart and Isaiah Osbourne on the treatment table.
On-loan Liverpool defender Jack Robinson is suspended after he was sent off against Blackburn last weekend.
