Nottingham Forest interim head of Academy Gary Brazil has described the 2012-13 Academy season as a ‘rollercoaster’.The former Fulham and Preston North End man guided The Reds to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, where his side were cruelly knocked out on penalties against Norwich at Carrow Road.
The Development Squad and Under 18s both finished fourth in their respective leagues to cap a very promising year, and Brazil enjoyed every second of it.
He said: “It’s been a rollercoaster. There have been a lot of highs – some really good moments, which we expect when working with kids. But we also had a few thunderbolts thrown at us which forced us to stop and think about our processes.
“But overall it’s been a really good year for the Academy. We’ve done some excellent work with the younger kids coming through the age groups – the part-time and full-time staff have done some really good work.
“Going forward, this Academy is going to be a very good place for young players to come into. They will get a good, holistic development programme which will not only aid them to become good players, but to also become good young men.”
