Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.Lead professional development coach Steve Chettle was forced to field another young side with both Wednesday night’s FA Youth Cup exertions and this afternoon’s Under 21s match in mind.
His side got off to a poor start when a Latics effort took Reds ‘keeper Aaron Myles by surprise on four minutes.
Forest quickly regained their composure to get a foothold back in the game and the two sides went into the break evenly matched.
But a sucker punch 30 seconds into the second half made it too tough a task for the visitors despite the best efforts of Danny Elliott and Deimantas Petravicius.
Chettle said: “It was a tough game – we never really looked like we were going to win it but we would have liked to have seen a better performance.
“But we’re giving away a couple of years in most positions at the moment and some of our Under 16s are getting good experience at a higher level.”
