Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dorus de Vries believes that the squad is in ‘good shape’ ahead of this weekend’s Sky Bet Championship opener against Huddersfield Town. The Dutchman played 90 minutes in The Reds’ 1-1 draw at Motherwell on Friday night and admitted that he and his teammates are looking forward to the visit of The Terriers.
Speaking after the game, he told Forest Player: “I think everyone has played their part in pre-season and I believe we are ready for the start of the league season. Pre-season training has gone really well and all the lads are just aiming to get back into their rhythm.
“We have some great players here who are comfortable when they are on the ball and that is always a good sign in pre-season. We can’t wait to see The City Ground full and we want to get playing when the pressure is on because that is what you enjoy the most as a footballer.”
Matt Derbyshire’s early strike put The Reds in front at Fir Park and although that was cancelled out by a late effort from Bob McHugh, de Vries felt that the game was important for the squad’s preparations.
He said: “I thought tonight was a good game for everyone individually and some of the lads were able to get 90 minutes under their belts which is always good. Everybody looked sharp and hungry tonight and we are raring to go ahead of next weekend.”
