Forest Sign Abdoun

25 July 2013

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Olympiacos winger Djamel Abdoun for an undisclosed fee.

The Algerian international, who has 11 caps to his name, has signed a three-year deal at The City Ground after leaving the Greek champions.

The 27 year old was raised in France and spent his youth career with Paris Saint-Germain and Ajaccio before opting to further his career with Greek side Kavala.

He wasted no time in making an impact, racking up the most assists in the 2010-11 Greek Superleague to develop a reputation as one of the division’s top players.

Despite his form Kavala were relegated, but Abdoun was handed an immediate return to the top flight with a move to Greek giants Olympiacos.

He quickly became an important figure for the Athens outfit, racking up 28 appearances in his first season as they scooped a second successive league title.

He remained a pivotal figure in 2012-13, notching eight goals in a campaign which saw him pick up another league winners’ medal and experience Champions League football against the likes of Arsenal and Schalke.

This isn’t Abdoun’s first foray into England – he had a brief loan spell at Manchester City in 2007 – and Forest manager Billy Davies is confident that the winger will be a big threat to opposition defences this season.

Abdoun’s shirt sponsorship is now available from £645 + VAT. For more information, call the Commercial team on 0115 982 4450, or email
