Alex McLeish insists he is looking to add steel to his Nottingham Forest squad during the January window.Transfer activity was the main talking point when the new Reds boss met the media ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third round meeting with Oldham at The City Ground (kick-off 3pm).
And he revealed: “I’ll be looking to strengthen in several positions. At the moment I don’t want to be specific but we certainly want to bring in players that can enhance the quality.
“There’s no doubt that we want players that can control a football and take the ball and pass it.
“But at the same time we need a blend in the team because as everyone knows this division is not just about playing pretty football to get out.
“We would like to do it in a bit of style - we will try and encourage the guys to have the courage to pass it and take it.
“But I don’t think I need to coach the guys mentally too much on that side because the bunch I’ve inherited seem to be able to handle the ball quite well.
“It’s really about adding a wee touch of steel to our game and not being a soft touch at times because clearly shipping in goals that we have done from time to time – even the two in the Palace game – can be prevented.”
Meawhile, McLeish has confirmed that Alan Hutton has joined Jermaine Jenas in returning to his parent club from his loan spell at The City Ground.
Jenas went back to Tottenham earlier this week and McLeish revealed: “Alan has gone back to Aston Villa. We decided that we want to try and concentrate on other position and enhance the quality of the squad overall.”
