Academy Director Nick Marshall was disappointed in Nottingham Forest’s performance despite their 2-1 victory over Rochdale in the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round.Wilfried Gnahore gave The Reds a first minute lead but Dale will have felt hard done by when Aristote Amisi Kamaneno doubled the advantage against the run of play before the break.
The visitors did pull one back late in the second half but they couldn’t force extra time.
Marshall said: “All credit to Rochdale – they played very well. We had watched them a couple of times and we knew they were a good team.
“We just didn’t do enough of what got us the goal in the first minute. Technically we were poor, we didn’t make good decisions – we underperformed severely.
“Despite playing poorly we did get ourselves into some good positions, particularly for our goals, but the final ball or the finish was often lacking.
“It’s fantastic that the lads have got another opportunity to show what they’re made of in this competition because, apart from maybe half an hour against Cardiff in the last round, we just haven’t show anywhere near what we’re capable of.”
