Alex McLeish was scathing of his Nottingham Forest side’s performance in their 3-0 defeat to Watford at The City Ground this afternoon.Troy Deeney and a Matej Vydra brace saw-off The Reds whose performance left a lot to be desired.
And their manager pulled no punches in his appraisal.
McLeish said: “It was a poor a performance from our back four – the two centre forwards caused us no end of problems.
“There was a lack of sharpness, a lack of thought – we know that things have to improve because that sort of performance won’t get us into the playoffs.”
Watford spent the early part of week in La Manga while Forest opted to battle the elements on home soil.
And McLeish believes the run-up to the game hindered his side.
He said: “I don’t want to make excuses for the players but they trained four days this week after an emotionally-draining Derby game. Perhaps our preparation accounted for our level of performance today.
“I may have to rethink our training schedules in order to get a bit more sharpness back into the team.”
