Chosen Charity For Oldham

3 January 2013

AMC Gardens is a community project in the heart of the Meadows.

Local people have transformed a piece of wasteland into a welcoming garden: Full of surprises… from chillis to chickens!

There is an orchard, wildlife pond, fire pit, organic growing beds, Tandoor oven, polytunnel and 19 mini plots. The food grown ranges from beans to bananas. They sell fresh vegetables at low cost to the community. Our free-range hens and bees provide eggs and honey.

Children love going to learn about growing food, caring for the environment and have fun building dens and pond-dipping. Adults of all ages and backgrounds benefit from the training and volunteering opportunities.  The Gardens now have an ‘eco-building’ with a kitchen, giving people the chance to gain more skills for life and employment.

AMC Gardens hosts events and activities which bring the community together and showcase hidden talents. See www.amcgardens.co.uk for event details.

Located within a mile of The City Ground, AMC Gardens are run by and for local people. Supported by over 50 regular volunteers, and welcome more than 5,000 visitors each year.

As the Gardens have grown, so has the challenge of keeping the project going. They would really appreciate any support you can give to help the Gardens thrive. To volunteer or donate to AMC Gardens please go to the link www.localgiving.com/charity/amcgardens
