Alex McLeish admits he could not afford to pass up the opportunity to sign Gonzalo Jara Reyes on loan from West Brom. The 27 year old Chilean international has joined The Reds for the remainder of the season and is poised to make his debut in Saturday’s Kids for a Quid game against Peterborough at The City Ground (kick-off 3pm).
McLeish has revealed he attempted to re-sign Alan Hutton from Aston Villa but when that failed to come to fruition turned his attention to Jara.
The boss told us: “We tried for Alan Hutton again but I think he’s looking to see if there’s anything for him in the Premier League.
“You’ve got to move as quickly as you can and sometimes an opportunity like Jara doesn’t come around again.
“Steve Clarke said West Brom would let him out and him and Dan Ashworth (West Brom’s Sporting and Technical Director) and the people at our Club have worked very swiftly to get him in.
“He’s a very experienced full back and is a guy who works and trains full-on.”
Tickets for the Peterborough game are available via the usual outlets – in-person at The City Ground Ticket Office, on-line at www.nffcretail.com or by calling 0871 226 1980 (calls are charged at 10p per minute, mobile rates may vary).
