Nottingham Forest’s Under 21 side were pegged back by a late equaliser in this afternoon’s match against Sheffield United at The Nigel Doughty Academy.A spectacular Adam N’Kusu Landu overhead kick broke the deadlock on the hour mark but on 82 minutes United’s Aaron Barry was on hand to finish from close range to condemn the match to stalemate.
The leveler came just minutes after Elliott Whitehouse had missed a penalty for the visitors.
The first half was a quiet affair with the main incident of note coming in the form of a nasty-looking injury to Reds full back Peter Gregory after a late challenge.
The Reds were restricted to two half chances - both of which fell to Morgan Ferrier who failed to capitalise.
The game perked up after the interval and it took only four minutes for Ben Osborn to race on to Ferrier’s through ball before producing a good save by Martin Dewbury.
United went straight down the other end and Dimitar Evtimov was called into a sprawling save to turn Angelos Christeas’ header wide when it looked destined for the bottom corner.
Five minutes later, Kieran Wallace’s powerful effort was turned over by Dewbury after a strong run took him to the edge of the area.
But the Blades stopper was beaten on the hour mark when Ben Osborn’s pinpoint cross was met in extravagant fashion by N’Kusu Landu.
The game then hit a lull before Whitehouse fired a warning shot just wide of Evtimov’s post.
And the Bulgarian’s goal was under further threat a minute later when Diego De Girolamo was felled by Kieran Fenton in the area.
Whitehouse’s effort went wide and The Reds had a reprieve.
It was only a temporary one, however, as with eight minutes to play Barry got the wrong side of Jack Blake at a corner to turn home from close range.
Both teams then pressed for a winner but failed to create another clear cut chance and the game ended 1-1.
