Good Companions is a small charity that aims to reduce loneliness and isolation among the elderly residents of Clifton, Wilford and Silverdale.Set up in 2000, they provide volunteers to visit the isolated elderly in their own homes for some companionship and support. They also run two Friendship Groups a week at different locations in Clifton. These groups provide an opportunity for people to meet new (and old) friends and to socialise with people in a similar position to themselves.
For some people the Friendship Groups are a lifeline as this may be the only time on a weekly basis that they either get out of their homes or talk to other people.
Each week they do a quiz, raffles and play the ever-popular game of bingo. They also arrange outside speakers, day trips, Christmas parties and other events that help to keep the mind and body active.
Good Companions also provides an opportunity for volunteering. The majority of their volunteers are retired and enjoy the social benefits that come with volunteering in the community.
They ask that anybody interested in volunteering can commit to at least a year of visiting to cause as little disruption to their service users as possible.
As a charity they rely heavily on public donations. If you would like to make a donation please follow the link to Local Giving:
