Chosen Charity For Huddersfield

12 February 2013

The Friary is a registered Charity based in West Bridgford delivering a range of advice, health and support services to disadvantaged adults.

They are committed to enabling positive change in the lives of disadvantaged people in the Nottingham area through the provision of person-centred support services. Every week they cater for around 300 visits from people in crisis, thus equating to over 15,500 visits per year.

The services on offer range from professional advice services to a GP service and practical support with food and clothing. Also on offer is a tenancy support service delivering budgeting and life skills training in service users’ homes. The current economic climate is creating an immense amount of demand on their services as more people are evicted from their homes, an increasing number of people are defaulting on debt repayment plans and restrictions are being made to the amount of benefit that people can claim. There are a great number of people in Nottingham who really do not know where to turn to get out of their crisis and it is imperative that the Friary is able to continue to be there for these people. One service user who has received help from the Friary had this to say: “Without hope I would be dead and the Friary gives people hope”.
