Billy Davies has issued a passionate rallying call to Nottingham Forest’s supporters after sealing his return to The City Ground. The 48 year old Scotsman has twice taken Forest to the play-offs and is relishing the opportunity to try and complete “unfinished business” on Trentside.
He has been overwhelmed by the reaction of fans to his re-appointment and told Forest Player: “The supporters should be applauded for their loyalty.
“I’m not talking about their loyalty to me – I’m talking about their loyalty to the club as a whole.
“Everything we do is for this club and trying to get it back into the Premier League.
“I would urge the fans to get behind this club, get behind the Chairman and the players.
“Don’t expect us to win 17-0 every week because it won’t happen. There will be highs and lows but over a period of time I hope we will get back to where we belong.”
Davies will officially start work as Reds boss on Monday when he will also face the media at The City Ground.
He added: “I’m very excited about what lies ahead, the challenges that lie ahead.
“I’ve said before that when I left I felt I had unfinished business and I really meant that. It wasn’t a publicity stunt.
“It’s a wonderful football club with wonderful fans who want what we all want – to see Forest back in the Premier League.
“I want to try and finish the job with the players, the staff, the fans and especially with the new owners.
“We’ll give it our best shot and see where it takes us.”
Davies will take charge of The Reds for the first time when they face Bolton at The City Ground on Saturday week.
