Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s get their FA Youth Cup campaign underway tonight with a third-round clash against Charlton Athletic at The City Ground (kick-off 7pm).Gary Brazil’s latest batch of youngsters will be looking to repeat last season’s run to the semi-finals which saw The Reds see off Cardiff, Rochdale, Huddersfield and Bolton before they were cruelly beaten by Norwich City on penalties in the last four.
And while Brazil says that tonight’s meeting with The Addicks will be a tough assignment, he also insists that the game will be a vital step in the players’ development.
He said: “It will give the players a chance to play at The City Ground for the first time and it will be interesting to see how they cope against tough opposition on a big pitch.
“We have a younger squad than we did last season. But the game will be an enjoyable experience for the lads and will certainly aid their development.
“It would be great to see a big crowd at The City Ground for the game. We feel it would be good for the public to see how the boys are developing and what we are trying to build within the Academy.”
Admission for the game is priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions and kick-off is at 7pm.
The winners of tomorrow night’s tie will face a trip to Southampton in the fourth round.
