We Stood Up To The Test

7 December 2013

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has told Forest Player his side put in ‘a man’s performance’ in this afternoon’s 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Simon Cox’s goal three minutes into the second half was enough to see The Reds move back into the top six and the manager was delighted to witness his team take all three points and keep a clean sheet in South Yorkshire.

He said: “When you come to grounds like Hillsborough you know it will be tough. I thought we stood up to everything they threw at us and we performed like men. We were organised, disciplined and our display was very pleasing.

“The back five must take tremendous credit for their performance and Simon Cox fully deserved his goal. They threw a lot at us in the second half but we dealt with it superbly and got the win we merited.”

Despite the success moving Forest back into the playoff places, the boss was quick to reiterate that nothing is won in December but also expressed his sincere gratitude to the 4,000-strong travelling Reds fans who occupied the Leppings Lane End.

He said: “We don’t get too down when we lose and we won’t get carried away after this win. We’ll keep our feet on the ground, do a hard week of training and prepare to face Ipswich next weekend.

“I must say thank you to the Nottingham Forest supporters this afternoon. To see both tiers full behind that goal was excellent and they’ve done the club proud again today with their fantastic support.”
