Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s were unable to make it two wins on the bounce as they were beaten 2-1 at Crewe Alexandra this afternoon.James Demetriou had put The Reds in front after finishing off a flowing team move but they were soon pegged back as AJ Leitch-Smith equalised for the home side.
Alex defender George Ray put the hosts in front for the first time in the second half and despite plenty of pressure from Charlie McParland’s side they were unable to find an equaliser.
And McParland admitted after the game that his team could have taken something from the contest if they had been more alert.
He said: “It was two losses of concentration which led to the two goals. We allowed them to take the lead and with a bit more luck we would have got an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be.
“On the positive side we scored a fantastic team goal and James did really well to get on the end of it. We’ll keep working hard and we’ll go again at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.”
