James Demetriou’s late winner gave Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s a thrilling 3-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.Goals from Jack Blake and Kieran Wallace had given The Reds a commanding 2-0 lead before The Owls hit back in the second half to level the scores.
That was the way it stayed until a minute from time when Demetriou popped up to leave Forest celebrating a superb win away from home.
The Reds had taken the lead on 31 minutes as Blake crashed home a free-kick past Wednesday goalkeeper Dawson and despite some good chances for the hosts, Forest held that slender lead into half-time.
And just three minutes after the interval, Charlie McParland’s side doubled their advantage. Wallace was able to get in front of his man before firing home an unstoppable volley as The Reds took control of the contest.
The home side were not out of the game though and produced a superb fightback. Franck Betra scored a fortunate opener for Wednesday with a defected shot that looped over Jordan Smith before the same man latched onto a through ball before finishing calmly.
Despite letting their two-goal lead slip, Forest were not going to leave without all three points and they got them as Demetriou turned home a cross from the right-hand side to secure a precious away victory for The Reds.
