Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s got their season up and running with an eventful 3-3 draw at Barnsley on Saturday.Having taken a 22nd-minute lead through Danny Elliott, The Reds twice came from behind to snatch a point courtesy of Wilfried Gnahore and Kasheme Walton.
After a positive start, Forest took the lead when Elliott converted at the near post after some good play down the right.
They were pegged back five minutes later however as their hosts pounced quickly to turn home after Aaron Myles’ initial save.
And Forest headed in to half-time behind after Myles was helpless to prevent a well-struck 25-yarder from sailing past him and into the net.
Undeterred, The Reds came back out fighting and had an equaliser just before the hour. Gnahore broke away from the Barnsley defence before slotting underneath The Tykes’ keeper.
The hosts restored their lead once again with ten minutes to play – an excellent strike from 35 yards cannoned off the crossbar and Barnsley scored from the rebound.
And just as it appeared Forest would be departing South Yorkshire empty-handed, substitute Walton met the impressive Oliver Burke’s cross at the near post to secure a good point.
Interim lead professional development coach Steve Chettle was happy with his team’s display.
He said: “Overall, I was generally pleased with the way they played - both teams got what they deserved out of the game.
“We must now look to start keeping clean sheets while continuing to score goals at the other end.”
