Kelvin Wilson has revealed that Nottingham Forest were the ‘right club’ to lure him away from Scottish Champions Celtic. The cultured centre back completed a medical at The Nigel Doughty Academy last night and today put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
After playing the full 90 minutes in Celtic’s Champions League qualifier away at Swedish side Elfsborg on Wednesday night, Wilson embarked on a mammoth journey and, as he told Forest Player, he was thrilled with his final destination.
Wilson said: “It’s nice to be back. I’m delighted to get it all sorted and I can’t wait to get started to be honest.
“I wouldn’t have left Celtic for just anyone, it had to be the right club. And no club fitted the bill better than Nottingham Forest.
“I’ve been at Notts County, Preston and Celtic but looking back and trying to pick a spell I enjoyed the most, even though I played in the Champions League with Celtic, I would have to say it was here.”
Whether Wilson will be in Billy Davies’ squad for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure - he can’t wait to get back on his old stomping ground.
He admitted: “Out of everything, I have probably missed the fans the most. I love playing at The City Ground.
“I know people talk about Barcelona, this game and that game, but I just love matchdays at The City Ground.”
