Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies was delighted to see his side progress to the Capital One Cup third round after a 2-1 extra-time win over Millwall tonight.Jamaal Lascelles scored his first Forest goal early in extra-time to send The Reds through and the boss was pleased that his team sealed a safe progression into round three.
He told Forest Player: “Every game that we face at the moment is tough and this was no different. Millwall were very organised and made it difficult for us but I’m delighted to get through to the next round.
“I thought there were some really good performances out there tonight and I think we showed what great strength in depth we have at the club.”
There were eleven changes to the side which drew at Watford last time out and the manager praised the character shown by The Reds to bounce back from conceding late in normal time.
The Forest boss said: “We were disappointed to lose a goal right before the end but I was really pleased with the way in which we responded and went on to win the game. That showed the fighting spirit we have here at the moment.
“Matt Derbyshire has now scored seven goals if you include pre-season, Jamie Paterson put in an excellent shift and of course, we are all delighted for young Jamaal Lascelles who scored his first goal for us.”
