The long-awaited 2013-14 Sky Bet Championship season gets under way on Saturday as Huddersfield Town visit The City Ground (kick-off 3pm).The summer has been a busy one for both clubs. Forest, aiming to go one better than last season with a push for promotion, have witnessed the arrival of eight new faces, while Huddersfield have added seven to a squad which narrowly avoided relegation last season.
The Reds are unbeaten against The Terriers in seven meetings and have won the last four encounters between the sides at The City Ground.
Opening day matches have generally been kind to Forest, especially when playing at home. Billy Davies’ men haven't lost a home curtain-raiser since 1983 and have since picked up six draws and seven wins from similar fixtures, including a 1-0 victory over Bristol City at the start of 2012-13.
Billy Davies will have a selection headache ahead of the game as he decides which of his summer signings to include in the starting line-up.
Huddersfield manager Mark Robins has similar selection posers, especially up front. Goals were hard to come by for The Terriers last season and they have addressed that with the addition of four new strikers - Jon Stead, Martin Paterson, Cristian Lopez and James Vaughan, who was named Town’s Player of the Season at the end of the last campaign after a successful loan switch from Norwich.
The Reds go into this game on the back of an unbeaten pre-season campaign.
Last Friday's 1-1 draw against SPL side Motherwell concluded a schedule that yielded four wins and three draws.
Hibernian (N) - Won 2-1
Mansfield (A) - Won 1-0
Ilkeston FC (A) - Won 2-0
Chesterfield (A) - Drew 1-1
Royal Antwerp (H) - Drew 2-2
Walsall (A) - Won 2-1
Motherwell (A) - Drew 1-1
Huddersfield's pre-season preparations have not been as successful as The Reds' in terms of results. They only won once but they will be pleased with the goal return of their strikers.
Paterson has found the net three times, while Vaughan and Lopez were each on the scoresheet in their previous two games.
Chesterfield (A) - Lost 2-1
York City (A) - Drew 1-1
Guiseley (A)- Drew 2-2
Rotherham (A) - Won 1-0
Real Betis (H) - Lost 4-2
Oldham Athletic (A) - Lost 3-2
Down The Years
Forest wins over Huddersfield: 13 (12 League, 1 League Cup)
Huddersfield wins over Forest: 17 (16 League, 1 FA Cup)
Draws: 16 (12 League, 3 League Cup, 1 FA Cup)
Forest fans won't forget the last meeting between the two sides in a hurry. The 6-1 thrashing of The Terriers at The City Ground last season was Billy Davies' first victory since his return to the club.
It wasn't plain sailing early on though as James Vaughan gave the visitors a tenth-minute lead. But a Radoslaw Majewski hat-trick and a perfectly executed header from Elliott Ward sent The Reds into a 4-1 half-time lead.
Henri Lansbury made it five after the break before Darius Henderson put the icing on the cake with an excellent header at the death, his first goal for the club.
The win was the first in a six-game winning run that propelled Forest into the playoff reckoning.
He Played For Both
David Phillips was one of Frank Clark's first signings in 1993 as The Reds looked to bounce straight back to the Premier League. The midfielder joined from Norwich City and went on to make 159 appearances for the club.
He spent four seasons at The City Ground and left in 1997 to join Huddersfield, going on to play 58 times for the West Yorkshire club.

The Reds are 4/5 to beat The Terriers on Saturday with Sky Bet, with the draw 5/2.
Last season, Adlene Guedioura's strike was enough for an opening day victory over Bristol City. The same score this weekend is 5/1, but those who think the game will finish goalless, which would be the fifth 0-0 draw in the last seven years, may be interested at a price of 9/1.
