Nottingham Forest’s Sky Bet Championship match against Bolton Wanderers will be the first of many Reds home games to be broadcast live on Al Jazeera TV.Since the Al Hasawi family’s takeover of the club just over a year ago, Forest have been working with various partners both in the UK and in Kuwait to raise the profile of the club in the Middle East.
Forest operations manager Joe Sharphouse said: “It’s a real positive step for the club on many different levels.
“We’ve worked really hard to raise Forest’s profile in Fawaz’s homeland. Having visited Kuwait myself last Christmas the Kuwaiti people have an enormous appetite for English football. Their knowledge of the game and passion for European football is second to none.
“Hopefully this will go one step further towards making sure Nottingham Forest become the club of Kuwaiti people, increasing our ever-expanding international fan base.”
Tomorrow’s match will see The Reds sport their new sponsor’s logo for the first time and, now the club have secured further worldwide exposure, the club will be looking to maximise commercial opportunities.
Sharphouse said: “We’ve opened up a completely fresh market from a commercial perspective, and we hope to be able to engage with more and more Middle Eastern companies.
“Already this season we have seen Zain (a Kuwaiti telecommunications company) sponsor Khaled Al-Rashidi, and I hope that many more Middle Eastern companies will follow suit.”
The match is being screened live on Al Jazeera Sports +3 channel.
