Simon Cox hopes to return to action in Nottingham Forest’s Capital One Cup second round match at home to Millwall tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45pm).The Irish international picked up an ankle injury in The Reds’ first-round victory over Hartlepool United and sees tomorrow evening as a chance to continue his progression towards reaching full fitness.
Cox told Forest Player: “You can do as much training as you want but it’s games you need. I feel good and I feel like I could play at least 60-70 minutes.
“Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to play against Millwall and show the manager that I’m back and ready to play.”
The injury, which came about when Cox stumbled awkwardly while tracking back against Pools, initially looked a serious one. The striker admits himself that he is surprised to be back so quickly and was full of praise for Forest’s medical team.
He said: “I’ve had a couple of injuries since I’ve been here so I’ve probably spent more time with them than most of the other players. They do good work, they put in really long hours and they’re always on call whenever you need them.
“They’re good physios and they know their stuff.”
