Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s coach Charlie McParland was delighted with his side’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City at The City Ground on Friday night.Second half goals from Jack Blake, Josh Rees and Marcus Tudgay gave The Reds a well-deserved victory and McParland was impressed by the performance.
He said: “We played some excellent football tonight and carved out some really good chances. I thought it was going to be the same old story of us dominating the game but not taking our opportunities.
“When we had the ball tonight, we were very good and we managed to get three good goals which is very pleasing. But we know we’ve still got plenty of work to do to keep improving the lads.
Despite the margin of success, McParland admitted his side had a tough ten minutes at the beginning of the second half and that there are improvements still to be made.
The boss said: “At the start of the second half we were sloppy and our defending wasn’t good enough. Luckily for us though, they’ve hit the crossbar and Jordan Smith has made a couple of great saves.
The game was the first of many Under 21 matches to be played at The City Ground this season and McParland said the venue helped to inspire his players.
He said: “It is a dream to play at this ground for these boys and so it should be on such a magnificent pitch. If you can’t go out there and enjoy yourself here then you should pack in football and find another job.
