Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s improved to claim a 0-0 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. The youngsters suffered a 7-2 defeat at home to Leeds the previous week but responded well to claim a point in South Yorkshire on Saturday.
The hosts squandered a golden opportunity to win the match with ten minutes to play after goalkeeper Aaron Myles, who had earlier made a smart stop at his near post, conceded a penalty. But they failed to hit the target and the match ended 0-0.
Professional development coach Steve Chettle said: “It was a much improved performance on last week. I asked for a reaction and I got a very pleasing one – the boys were magnificent.
“My team selection has been affected for the last month because of our run in the Youth Cup. We had four Under 16s playing against Wednesday – Joe Worrall, Andreas Karo, Jack Kelly and Jermaine Worthington.
“We’re stretched, but only because of our own success.”
