Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies was upbeat despite defeat at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium this evening. The Reds lost 1-0 to a first-half Mustapha Carayol strike but remain only one point outside the playoff positions.
And Davies refused to get bogged down after experiencing only his second defeat since returning to the club.
He said: “I thought we started as well as we have done for a few weeks. We had a couple of great chances but didn’t hit the target. Then we switched off for one second, after controlling the first 30 minutes, and gave them an opportunity to score with what was probably their first attack.
“The phrase ‘shooting ourselves in the foot’ springs to mind - that’s what we seem to be doing at the moment. I can’t fault the effort of the players. They really tried in the second-half.
“Nothing changes - this will go right to the last game. What we’ve now done is given ourselves no margin for error. There are three games to go and there’s still everything to play for.”
