Forest Fields Advice Centre was formed in 1983 and for the past 30 years they have assisted thousands of local people to resolve their benefit, housing and debt problems. They are a registered charity that is run and managed entirely by volunteers. At the present time they do not have any paid staff at all due to lack of funding. The centre is located in the heart of Forest Fields and their clients and users are literally from all over the world. At the current time they are providing a mixture of advice and educational services and also act as a base for other local community groups:
1) Advice Services:
a) Benefits, housing, and debt advice provided in partnership with Nottingham Law Centre.
b) Employment advice is provided by NG7 Training, Employment and Advice who are based at their centre.
c) Information, advice and guidance for women is provided by Hawa Women’s Network who is also based at the centre.
In partnership with City College Nottingham they currently provide E.S.O.L, I.T and Fashion and Design classes at the centre. In addition, Hawa Women’s Network have organised classes in Personal Development and Numeracy and Literacy. They are also a centre partner with UK Online centres, providing clients with basic computer courses and other government services online. Like all charities they rely on grants and charitable donations to provide quality services for local people and just to survive!
